After his huge success with Everybody Knows earlier this month, Patrick Daniels makes his return on Onefold with this superbly crafted two-track offering, Cold Hearted. The Torontonian producer kicks off with the EP’s title track, a deliciously rich sound, with a deep vocal top-line carried effortlessly on buttery synths and a feel-good, shuffling beat. The track starts out with Daniels’ usual dark and moody tones, but is quickly transformed with a wonderfully infectious piano lead melody, making this a definite staple for your summer playlists.
Next up we have Tell It Like It Is, where Daniels’ takes us down to a much tougher, darker place on the house-spectrum. A mechanical beat chugs along under frantic percussion and samples of distorted speech, giving us a vastly different sound to Cold Hearted. If the first half of this EP was made with sun drenched beaches in mind, then this is one for after dark, getting lost in the sounds of a peak-time basement set- a true all-rounder of a record, and one that’s set to be massive.
